I call it “32.5″ the first time Alinghi will meet his opponent Oracle since the 32^nd cup

The iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series is a five-event circuit stopping at some of Europe’s top destinations including Lugano (Switzerland), Skandia Cowes Week (UK), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), and new venues in France and Germany soon to be announced. Showcasing top-level racing, the event attracts some of the world’s best Olympic, round the world, America’s Cup and solo sailors, who will go head-to-head on open sea, picturesque lakes and restricted canals.

That’s why I’m running a bit in this days to set up the event in Lugano Switzerland from the 30.5 – 1.6.2008 come to Lugano and see, you can’t miss it.

Optimist Swiss Open 2007
200 kids, allmost 200 parents, several nations, many races in 4 days, 1800 - 2200 visitors on the event website each day, this are just a few numbers from the event.
Running such an event becomes more a logistical exercise, and the job changes from the traditional race management.
On the other hand it’s a particular feeling giving the start signal on the firts race after all the preparation work done, and of course you feel a bit sad but and happy after the price given.

Ticino Sailing Week, Laser Europa Cup Lugano
In 1999 we had the plan to run a bigger event with one or more Olympic classes in our club the Circolo Velico lago di Lugano. The first year with several Olympic classes on a national level we decided to focus on the Laser class on a international level with an Europa Cup.
Every year the event is growing in organizational aspects, level of sailors and for sure budget wise. Since more than 5 years this is the largest continuing Olympic class event in Switzerland.

UBS Alinghi Swiss Tour
The tour was the start of Match racing in Switzerland, at the beginning on every location different boats.A strong involvement of UBS and Ronnie Pieper allowed purchasing equal boats Streamline for all involved locations.Since the early days of Alinghi I was involved with setup and race management and umpiring of the UBS Alinghi Swiss Tour on the following legs: Lugano, Zurich, Thun and Geneva.

UBS Lugano Match Cup
UBS Lugano Match Cup is a series of 2 match races in the beginning of the season. Act 1 a grade 4 event as qualification event for Swiss teams and Act 2 a grade 3 event with international teams.
This year during Act 2 we organized an international umpire seminar and the UBS Media Day which gave many journalists and 2 national TV teams the chance to gain an insight view of match racing.
